…ever wonder precisely where feeds into aggregate-results-driven search engines come from?… and try to separate the varlets from their masters? …ever stop to consider how specific search engines simply cull data, comb other search engines and regurgitate it all as a new meal, like animals?…here’s a wake up call: search engines are to each other as kevin bacon is to hollywood…i recently checked out bruce clay’s search engine relationship chart to soak up some easy to digest info…definitely worth a visit…if you’ve never heard of bruce clay, he’s this guy in ca who has become a soi-disant search engine optimization guru…

…what you do here is load the image map, and then simply mouse over the search engine or directory resource of interest (e.g. dmoz, or one of the 15 others) and you’ll see four possible relationships emerge, as indicated by colored arrows (sorry b&w monitor users and color blind folks ;)…each resource either supplies primary or secondary search results, and additionally, each resource might be providing directory driven results (e.g. from dmoz) or results via paid inclusion (pretty much everything else)…like a search engine mazzaroth (but 16, not 12 ;)

this is a great way to stay on top of the data network behind your regular results….oh, btw, tool number 2 from bruce: his new search engine hub, which kinda kicks ass…it’s a very, very simple text/query entry box surrounded by logos for 16 different major search engines and directories - just enter your query and click the engine…beats the hell out of installing yet another toolbar
