so yeah, some good news about internet search engine behavior from an article over at information week… turns out that more and more people are ‘using more than one search engine‘…sure, this sounds like a moronic leap forward in the freakishly darwinian world of search engine offerings, but certainly worth noting…

specifically, elGoog, yahoo and msn are leading the way, accounting for about 80 percent of all search engine queries combined…however, about 58 percent of elGoog users are also using yahoo and/or msn…per the article (from nielsen data), “Yahoo and MSN users were even less loyal to their search site. Nearly 71 percent of those who searched at Yahoo also visited at least one of the other two sites, while 70 percent of MSN users did the same…Yahoo shared 39 percent of its traffic with Google, MSN shared 33 percent of its.”……now, here’s some scary shit:During the month (of january 2005), Google handled 1.9 billion searches, 47 percent of the total run by Americans at work and home…Yahoo did 868 million (21 percent) and MSN 523 million (13 percent)...”

…but remember a while back when i wrote about kissin’ cousins in the world of internet search? well, the point is that the reach of this troika extends far beyond their own sites, since they are in fact the same search engines powering every other major destination site out there…maybe it’s time for a change, sorta not sure, just thinking out loud

Some similar nonsense, if you like that kind of thing:
