de mortiis, aut bene aut nihil (”of the dead, speak well or not at all“)…so nytimes.com is shutting down (at long last) the abuzz.com community forums site on 9/2…and not soon enough!…at first i was all choked up, since i followed abuzz’ birth years ago - when they competed with several other shitty mega-sites which also didn’t have the slightest “making love” chance of earning real money (won’t name names…about)…and why am i so happy about this digital mercy killing from the executive kevorkians at the new york times? here, let me sum it up for you with my ‘most very recentest’ experience…
…when i heard that abuzz was going down, i clicked on over to the site and entered a question - according to the site, i would get a great response from an intelligent person, or in their own language, “They’re not paid experts, but people who enjoy sharing knowledge for knowledge’s sake. They’re the distinctly non-technical ingredient that makes Abuzz more interesting than a chat room, more convenient than a news group, more responsive than a message board and more human than a search engine.”
so yeah, i asked my question : “farewell abuzz!!! so what happens to it all (everything!)??…where does it all go? the users? the data? will all past q&a be archived anywhere online? (edited)” …and boy did i get some impressive answers! - please be warned, this is NOT a joke - these are a few of the (many) actual responses that i received to my question within the first 48 hours:

is it any wonder that the abuzz.com home page says, “Note to users: On Thursday, September 2, the Abuzz.com service will be discontinued. We are ending the service due to limited resources for maintaining a quality, moderated community site. If you wish, you may save your discussions by copying and pasting them into a text document before September 2.”
this blog is mostly safe for work, though i sometimes throw around a 'fuck' or two. you'll find a bunch of my articles from CI Magazine, SCIP online, other research pieces and some other crap. enjoy. there's lost of content here related to getting information about, around, from and through people and organizations...
