mostly research stuff
okay, so we all remember this bullshit interview with playboy that barry and sergio did a while back, in which they not only blathered on about their do-no-evil mantra, but also went on to rationalize how and why they’ll take ads for wine, but never for liquor, guns and porn? well, apparently times have changed, and though i’m not sure quite when it happened, the bidding must be getting coo-coo crazy on the really hot keywords…let’s start with porn:
porn ads on google
okay, this one is really easy, just hit google and do a search for ‘porn‘ (or ‘get laid‘ or ‘eat pussy‘ or ‘handjob‘ - you get the point). check out the ads running down the right side, and then click on the ‘more sponsored links’ area to see the full roster…i’m not going to do these folks the honor of linking through, but my top ads included simplefreeporn.com, fantasyfinder.com, everythingfreeporn.com, freepornhandbook.com and many others…surprised?
liquor ads on google
so wine is a no-brainer, you can just type it in and up comes the ad block…but throw in beer or vodka (or others) and you get a blank ad slate…but this is odd, simply type in ‘buy beer‘ or ‘buy vodka‘ or ‘buy booze‘ and you’ll get assorted ads…i saw a LOT of ebay - they like to buy up all of those blocks through their relationship with elgoog for volume ad purchasing…
drug ads on google
so this wasn’t really the focus, nor in the title, though i still find it fascinating that elgoog is selling so much ad space to online pharmacies and purveyors of cheap online drugs with zero regard for site review or accreditation (can you say planetdrugs? also try a search for ‘buy paxil‘ or ‘oxycontin‘ or ‘buy viagra‘ or ‘buy sudafed‘ or one of many other big time drugs or currently prohibited items, namely sudafed - in fact, check out a search for pseudoephedrine, the active ingredient in sudafed that’s on the watch list, tons of advertisers)
gun ads on google
guns are a little mo’ tricky…elgoog clearly sells ads for keywords like ‘handguns‘ though direct search yield few sales prospects (oh, unless you count another few links to ebay! again!)…’buying guns‘ turns up another few ads (including my favorite from shopping.yahoo.com, ‘buy guns and more!’)….

you know, i’ll be totally honest with you…i only spent about two minutes digging up this shit because i figure that’s about right on par with the attention span of most people in the world…i’m certain there’s quite a bit more out there beneath the stones…
…but more importantly, this raises concerns about elgoog’s ad programs…we already heard the shit about the ad reps helping movie download sites gobble up precious keywords to promote sales, but how far is elgoog going with these other taboo categories? clearly they’re full of shit, we know that much, but is there still any kind of line in the sand at that company?
this blog is mostly safe for work, though i sometimes throw around a 'fuck' or two. you'll find a bunch of my articles from CI Magazine, SCIP online, other research pieces and some other crap. enjoy. there's lost of content here related to getting information about, around, from and through people and organizations...
