according to some SMUD (smud = “sorta made up data”), only 2 to 5 percent of the press releases put out over the wires actually see the light of day…does this matter? well sure, if you’re busy doing market research, competitor tracking or general market monitoring then you’re quite likely to already be a hapless victim of information overload, wrestling with the daily deluge of email alerts, keyword alerts, rss feeds, press and news summaries and so on…but what if you could get access to all of that other press information, all of the potential crap which might, just might, could possibly have one iota of meaningful news for your research needs? that would be nice, but only if it’s free…

the folks at the open press have done just this - compiled and created a search vehicle and repository for all press releases that are submitted to them, put them through reliability screening (which is a mysterious process, no real detail other than that they supposedly reject 30 percent of submissions)…and on top of it all, they also publish loads of amateur op-ed pieces and book reviews too, you know, to help the undiscovered student writers build out their resumes…oh, but wait, isn’t publishing op-eds and book reviews kinda like being a host of blogs? i dunno, that’s your call…

…per the folks at open press, “The Open Press, Inc. is not just another free press release portal. We have done our homework and market research and have spoken with journalists and industry professionals to get their feedback. We exact industry standards for press releases and we will NOT allow unprofessional press releases to be submitted through our services. All free press releases must comply with our press release guidelines. Our editors must approve all free press releases. We reject about 30% of free press releases submitted. If your release is lacking in content or reads like an advertisement, it will be rejected. We report quality news and will not accept anything less. All paid releases will go into our PRO PR section with its own RSS feed, bringing more credibility to your news.”

..and what would any forward thinking info site be without the accoutrements of a sophisticated digital news portal? they’d be losers, that’s what…so count on open press to aggregrate info and provide email alerts by subject along with dozens upon dozens of specialty rss feeds and some other assorted utilities (like a seemingly useless ad-based company directory?)….enjoy.

Some similar nonsense, if you like that kind of thing:
