okay, so back in april i was speaking at the aiip conference in arizona, where i managed to get some quality time with yael elish, founder of netsnippets - she and i have spoken many times, and while in tucson she indicated that netsnippets was going to be introducing a totally new product…she wouldn’t give up tremendous detail, though i did manage to get a few drinks into her after which time i was able (over an hour or so) to pretty much see where she and her team were headed…and so now i’m writing to let you all know that netsnippets has given birth to a very new type of free online research management tool…it’s called esnips (cute little bird logo btw)

how does esnips work? here’s the g5: download the toolbar (it only works in IE right now), set up your free account (you get one gig of free storage, which is rather huge if you bother to look at how much you might be saving with netsnippets’ free version already)…then go pop around the internet and snip and save stuff - links, full pages, text and image excerpts - or pull data and images from your local machine…for many of you already using netsnippets, it might look and feel a bit like netsnippets functionality (with a few different features), but with one major change: you’re now putting your information online and freeing up serious space on your hard drive and making all of your stuff accessible remotely, for free (versus using, uh, netsnippets server to achieve some similar goals)

…for those who follow this space (meaning you don’t have much of a life and so follow these niche tools), this might remind you of the new ’shadows’ offering from the pluck folks, but this is a different thing…remember, netsnippets began by making research and annotation tools for professionals, not consumers…and unlike furl and spurl and frassle, this is designed to deliver tight integration with your local research and images or other stuff (yeah, even if it’s crap they’ll still let you put it on their servers…even if it’s just pictures of mary kate and ashley)…

if i (personally) had to place bets, i’d put moola on yael and the netsnippets team to pull it off with esnips…they’ve already got a strong core product with netsnippets, including real revenue, and have years of experience working with a global audience of information seekers and digital packrats, both pro and consumer…versus the myriad alternatives, all in want of real revenue and features that make sense for everybody…yeah, okay, gotta run…

Some similar nonsense, if you like that kind of thing:
