ironic isn’t it? elGoog hires away some big firefox figures and at the same time, firefox extension developers have found yet another way to deprive elGoog of revenue opportunities in a fait accomplis for the firefox-using-elGoog-ad-hating communicants of the church of search…

what am i talking about? the updated and fully robust version of the customizegoogle extension for firefox users…i’m not sure how many folks are already using this extension for firefox regularly, but it has rocketed to the top of the download list very, very quickly…why? well, aside from the millions of things it does (like provide shortcuts for search results to compare results on yahoo or msn or digup the old version of whatever site you’re looking at on the wayback machine, etc) - it also REMOVES PESKY ADS from all search results (across news, search, groups, and even gmail, etc)…

how serious is that? strikes me as terrifying for elGoog, should chill their shit for at least a few months…no ads means no click-throughs and later on, no mone…ouch.

yeah, so at any rate, it’s a very cool extension - main favorite features (for me):

1 - those shortcuts to competitive results from yahoo and msn and several others (again folks, there’s more out there than elgoog)
2 - that little ‘history’ button that shortcuts the search into the wayback machine www.archive.org
3 - the ability to exclude URL’s permanently..(as in: remove spam from your search results) - you can build the filters on the fly by just clicking on any search result (and you’ll never see it again, sweet, huh?)
4 - secure gmail with https and again, NO ADS in gmail (yes)!!!
5 - links in ‘images’ point straight to images, not crap
6 - view, copy and save images from places that don’t want you to
7 - remove the google uid cookie without screwing up gmail or anything else (you know, so they can’t follow you around)

the developer just updated again on the 14th with version 0.23 beta (fixed a javascript)…so PLEASE give him some more money folks…together, we can unseat elGoog!…and if you want a good laugh, look up the record for the domain customizegoogle.com in the “whois” database…

Some similar nonsense, if you like that kind of thing:
