…seems that the world of targeted search just continues to grow…long after product price search (a la froogle) came a wave of specialty niche engines, from human capital search engines (like zoominfo, fka eliyon - or ziggs) to the trend du jour, blog search engines …one little sector that i’ve been keeping tabs on is the world of job related search engines…i do not mean vanilla job search engines, like those of hotjobs, monster et al, i mean search engines that focus on the subject of job openings from a different vantage point…

why? well, not for job seeking purposes…i do it because competitive intelligence consultants like moi love to keep tabs on organizational change at target companies of interest, and one way to do this is to scour the job postings…beyond defining current needs, many job descriptions offer insight into operations (e.g. marketing plans as described within obscure job openings), technology plans (e.g. language or platform skills being sought for an implementation)…and a whole lotta other crap (e.g. general indications, such as excessive hiring in customer service which might be read as “customer base is growing” and so on)…not gonna go off the deep end here, just want to toss out a few of the engines i’ve been tinkering with or examining…

indeed - this is a very simple and elegant design, feels a lot like they scraped the page layout from elGoog (and use the api perhaps)…however, the results are not really comprehensive upon closer examination…the site tells you where the jobs are coming from (corporate sites, monster.com, etc)…seems to be the most evolved of the bunch…offers alerts and notifications as well…

jobsniper - another variation, but also offers services to job seekers for money (surprised? they’ve gotta make money somehow…)…adds tens of thousands of jobs every day…similar search options, but allows users to control the meta search across any one or more of (currently) 30 searchable sites…not as comprehensive as indeed, but it would stand to reason that their meta-search approach will make site and resource addition quite simple…

flipdog - used to be great as a stand alone company, but they were gobbled up by monster and so now will be searching monster client sites..normally i’d say that such a change turns them into a real dog (or how about, ‘monster is the dog, now flipdog is the dog’s colostomy bag’ ?)…but monster is undeniably large and a major part of every company’s poorly executed recruiting strategy, so the jobs are likely all gonna be there anyways…

jobster - okay, this is more like a job-centric social networking site…just popped onto my radar after an email from one of their execs to let me know that it exists (rather, that they’re scaling)…sort of a job engine, though the focus is to work the contacts through employees…on an aside, they’ve got the most impressive management team of this whole bunch…

any other good ones that i’m missing?
