i heard recently that joyce parks, an employee at a company i loathe (friendster), was fired for blogging…apparently these were the two different blog entries which she believes prompted the shitcanning (entry 1 and entry 2)…also an interesting bit about her role in open source at the many to many blog…

how might we read into this a bit more? here’s a personal statement for ya: an egregious violation of any corporation’s role in the personal lives of its employees is its willingness to silence voices and ground the independent minds of internal constituents…feels like the information age equivalent of blocking unions to me…is it maybe time to bring this to the attention of that gargantuan thorn-in-free-speech’s-side organization?

…yeah, so it sounds like the time has come for the new role of “digital ombudsman” in corporate america…somebody there full time to police and safeguard the free will and free minds of all employees, regardless of their kiss-ass or contrarian positions (seems to be the only existing dichotomy for these corporate bloggers that i’m aware of)…

ross mayfield has come up with one interesting idea for an employee blogging policy…good start, but it doesn’t touch the other digital soapboxes (internet radio and broadcast, wikis, et al), and fails to touch some of the very heady issues - namely a pressing need to not have corporate america look and feel like china

Some similar nonsense, if you like that kind of thing:
