mostly research stuff
recently, i wrote about a disposable email tool called mailinator …but now i’ve stumbled onto something that could be about ten times better, much more well thought out - your own trash-able email address at my trash mail…basic idea is quite similar to mailinator (when you have to, for example, submit an email address to get information from a source, you spontaneously generate a fake email address with the ‘@mailinator.com’ ending…you can read all about mailinator in the other posting, this one’s supposed to be about trash mail)
trash mail adds a bit of impasto-like texture to this quest-for-zero-spam canvas with a very sweet feature: you can actually forward the emails should you wish to hold on to them…other nice features: emails are stored for up to two full weeks (versus just four hours with mailinator)…holds up to 2 megs of email before they start deleting the older messages, though you can delete them yourself as well - and any address can receive up to 4 megs of total email (2 megs at any time, hence the delete option) - and with attachments up to 500k (big enough for a standard document or low resolution picture of ted kennedy’s ass)…with trash mail you may also generate a name up to 50 characters long and keep holding on to it….if you’d like to try it out right now, simply email something to ‘whatever name you can dream up’ @mytrashmail.com and go log in and take a look…same as mailinator in that there is no cost, no sign up, no password - just your made up address…oh, and mailinator swears that they do not record ip addresses (you know, that little number that says exactly which little node you represent on the internet for tracing purposes)…
my main gripe with both of these services is that the names on the other side of ‘@’ symbol suck hard…while mailinator might coast by an unwitting contact, certainly a line like, ” send me that report if you would - it’s dave at my trash mail dot com” is going to raise an eyebrow and prompt a question…and questions are memorable….and in certain research circles, being very memorable ain’t a good thing….oh, and don’t be stupid when you’re using these services - remember that anybody using the same ‘basic names’ could be reading your mail unintentionally, so don’t be ‘dave,’ try something like ‘davesittingathisdesk@…’
this blog is mostly safe for work, though i sometimes throw around a 'fuck' or two. you'll find a bunch of my articles from CI Magazine, SCIP online, other research pieces and some other crap. enjoy. there's lost of content here related to getting information about, around, from and through people and organizations...

I like the mailinator address more. Mytrashmail sounds absurd - one person thought that I was kidding.

myTrashMail is realy cool. Its important to have a delete function and a forward function. They even have a reply function since last week.
I dont care about the name at all. Nowdays you never know what is real and what is not. See yahoo.com or msn.com.
Mailinator is just not as flexible as myTrashMail.
