mostly research stuff
that oracle/peoplesoft trial serves as not only a phenomenal exercise in futility and tax dollar waste strategy, but also as a brilliant display of open information access for the masses (you know, the little people, like me ‘n you!)…one site in the legal information deluge floated above the others…like wilt chamberlain at a wizard-of-oz post production orgy…like an information juggernaut, raising the bar for all legal watchdog sites across the globe…it was the oracle peoplesoft insider web site put up by information week magazine….what was amazing was not just the complete and intense product evaluation and market insight, along with ongoing trial information (oh, and advertising), but specifically that link to the sweet spot of it all, the department of justice exhibits used in the trial, for which all docs can be found online at the doj site (oh sweet public information access - thanks mistah government!)
…while the trial mechanics might bore you to death, the information overload should excite you. why? because it’s like a detailed roadmap into both organizations, all of senior and key middle management, their attitudes and opinions, all of corporate product strategy, pricing mechanics and a mother load of previously private and unsyndicated market research held internal to both organizations (oh, sorry, if you have zero to do with tech then that stuff might still bore you, if not, then please read on to get to the dirty laundry)
overall, i’ve got to agree with the very well written, articulate and irreverent john soat (editor of info week) that the single best exhibit (and the prompt for the entry title above about dirty laundry) is p2841 - the infamous, “how dirty can i fight?” email sent within oracle from tony kender to bob greene…a salient excerpt in the ‘reply to request for advice in a sales shootout’ is, “Remember, SAP is not the enemy, as much as you’ll want to spank them peoplesoft is the enemy. Bury them…Now, let me get back to my raw meat breakfast” rough huh? that crap will live online forever, or until the internet goes offline…(you can view the original pdf submitted for trial online) …another gem is p0107, the pdf file of the “attack peoplesoft” powerpoint presentation used to train the oracle sales reps, which is now online for ANY oracle competitor to use (thanks mister flawed logic government for publishing a dynamically harmful document which serves to damage peoplesoft from a zillion directions!)…oh but then again, there are those other emails like the pdf for exhibit p2596 where peoplesoft is gouging oracle by dropping the price over 65% to steal a customer…so you know what? screw ‘em both…larry ellison’s over-worked style kinda pisses me off anyways…
this blog is mostly safe for work, though i sometimes throw around a 'fuck' or two. you'll find a bunch of my articles from CI Magazine, SCIP online, other research pieces and some other crap. enjoy. there's lost of content here related to getting information about, around, from and through people and organizations...
