from JUNE 11th …. ouch! does this scare you? gotta put up a new OSINT news category to catch all of this independently…”Internet Society of China launches website where netizens can report inappropriate online content…. Shanghai. (via Interfax-China) - A number of government organizations including the Information Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Information Industry and the Bureau of Foreign Languages have launched a new website where netizens can report illegal or inappropriate information being disseminated online. The website will be run by the Internet Society of China (ISC). The new website, named the “Illegal and Inappropriate Information Report Center”, (http://net.china.cn) is open to any and all Chinese citizens. Complaints about illegal or inappropriate content can be filed with the website without any registration. Individuals filing complaints are asked to provide web page addresses, the location of the content in question and necessary contact information, all of which will be kept confidential, according to the ISC.

If a complaint is determined to be valid after a thorough investigation, the center will first notify the offending websites to revise the illegal or inappropriate content as soon as possible. If a website does not revise its content, the ISC will publicly disclose the name of the offending website and the nature of the illegal or offensive material. The center may even turn the matter over to relevant government and legal departments so that further punishment can be imposed on offending websites.

The new ISC “Illegal and Inappropriate Information Report Center” also provides a list of what materials are considered illegal and inappropriate, which includes anti-national sentiments, anti-constitutional propaganda, material about cults, superstitions, and violent and sexually explicit content.

The ISC is a non-profit organization jointly founded by Chinese telecom carriers, Internet service providers (ISP), equipment vendors, and research and academic institutions. It has more than 140 members, including China Telecom, China Unicom, China Netcom, SINA, Sohu, and almost every large Chinese ISP.
